Last week we focused on Instagram and today we're going to switch things up a bit. We're going to talk about the right ways to create a community on Reddit. Be careful though, even if there are moderation tools, Reddit largely belongs to its members.

Are you ready for it? Let's get started!

What is Reddit?

A community and social network for Americans, Reddit was founded in Silicon Valley in 2005 by three programming aficionados. Halfway between a social network and an internet forum, the covert Reddit frequently serves as the seedbed for trends that later spread throughout social networks without our knowledge: from memes to Youtube video "reactions" or "thread horrors," Reddit is everywhere.

The forum is structured on the material posted by its users, known as redditors. On the basis of "upvote" and "downvote," they choose which topics will receive the greatest attention. Each post can be "upvoted" or "downvoted" depending on how much attention it generates. The content's position on the homepage increases with the number of upvotes.

Thus, on the main page of Reddit appear the most influential posts of the moment. Then, several communities gather around specific themes in sub-forums called subreddits. There are subreddits on just about every topic.

Create a subreddit?

The first step is to pick a title and a subject! Your new neighborhood can have a name, a description of up to 500 characters, and other customizations. The most crucial step is naming your new subreddit. It ought to be original and free of trademarks.

Subreddit names cannot be changed in the future because they are permanent. You'll have to start over if you make a mistake and build a new community. You can explain to visitors what this subreddit is for, what is permitted, and what is not in the description. This is the first thing visitors see, so be sure you enter all the pertinent data before asking them to join up.

As the creator of your subreddit, you are a moderator by default. You can be the sole moderator of your subreddit or recruit friends for the position. Either way, as a moderator, you have certain powers that the normal Redditors of your subreddit do not.

Don't want to create your own subreddit?

It is also possible to make yourself known by publishing content, relevant answers and of course choosing the most relevant subreddit(s) too.

For this, you can use a very practical tool called Anvaka. It allows you, from a keyword, a basic subject, to display all the associated subreddits, thus facilitating your work of choice.

As you can see in the image below, from the basic subreddit, BTC, Anvaka automatically selects the associated subreddits.

Now you should be able to grow your community on reddit in the best conditions.

Next week we will focus on yet another social media, at the end of the day you will know everything!

Until then I wish you good luck in your content marketing adventure!
